My Christmas present to his dad was a Lego portrait of Marie. First I took a digital photo and had a computer program convert it to Lego pieces.
I went to many Lego stores and also ordered pieces online. I sorted the different colors into tupperwares and printed out the grid for the picture. It reminded me of cross-stitch...only with plastic.
A work in progress. There were a few crisis moments when I realized I'd bought the wrong colors, rendered the picture with a color that didn't exist, and finally, accidentally deleted the picture on the computer (I had to use a printed version I found in the trash, but just yesterday I found the original picture backed up on another computer. Whew!).
